Is Streak by Zerodha Halal?

Streak is Zerodha's no-code strategy builder — you set entry/exit rules without writing code, backtest them, and deploy against live NSE prices. It's a genuinely capable tool for building and running a trading strategy. It was also never built with Islamic finance in mind, and that shows up in a specific, checkable way: it has no Shariah screening layer at all.

What Streak does and doesn't screen for

Streak will happily build and run a strategy on any NSE-listed instrument you point it at — equities, futures, and options, including instruments and companies that fail a Shariah screen outright. There is no compliance layer stopping you from deploying a strategy on a conventional bank's stock, a company with excessive interest-bearing debt, or an options structure that raises independent gharar concerns. The tool has no opinion on any of that — screening is entirely on you, done manually, stock by stock, before you ever open the strategy builder.

That's not a flaw in Streak — it wasn't designed to be a Shariah product, and it doesn't claim to be one. But it means the halal question isn't "is Streak halal" so much as "is the specific strategy I build on Streak halal" — and that answer changes every time you add a new stock or instrument to a strategy.

Streak's automation model, post-2025

Following SEBI's February 2025 retail algorithmic trading framework, Streak's deployment model for retail users shifted to route orders through a confirmation step before they reach the exchange, rather than executing fully unattended — the same regulatory shift that shapes how every retail algo platform in India now operates, Namaa included. We've written more about why that confirmation requirement matters from a Shariah agency perspective, separate from the screening question above.

What to check before deploying a Streak strategy

Namaa AI screens for all of this before a candidate ever reaches your strategy — a stock has to pass the 4-layer engine before it's eligible to trade at all, and every entry still needs your confirmation. See the full methodology or check the current list of compliant NSE stocks.
